Local Rides

Well as this blog does seem to have a slant on cycling (and the Road form most of all), I thought I’d be a nice idea to post a list of local rides I know about or have been part of.  As far as I can tell there seems to be no complete list of local rides in Perth which make joining into a group ride a bit of a challenge if you don’t know anyone in the scene.

Please feel free to email  (shadow42atiinetdotnetdotau)  through any ride you know about and/or sponsor.

Joondalup Bike Force

Saturday Mornings @6:30am from Joondalup Bike Force.
Cater for riders of all levels. Usually run 3 rides ranging from 25-32km/h.
Have a number of re-group points and will wait for slower riders.
Distance: ~40km

Coffee at Leap Frogs Cafe.

Most Bike Force shops run a Saturday morning Shop Ride. Find one in your local area.

Joondalup Cycle City (JCC)

Saturday Mornings @6:00am from Arena Joondalup.
This is a faster group.  Depending on numbers with host 2 groups.
Rides average around to 35km/h+ mark (have been known to average over 40k/h!)
No re-group points. If you get dropped, make sure you know the way home!
Distance: ~50km

Coffee at DOME Joondalup.

JCC generally have a ride every day of the week.
They typically all start at 6am, however the start location can vary from Arena Joondalup and the JCC Shop.

Narrows Bridge Group

Tuesday Mornings @6:00am from under the north side of the Narrows Bridge.
This is a faster group.  This ride heads SW via Nedlands to Fremantle and back to the city via Bicton and Canning Bridge.
Rides average around to 35km/h+ mark. Also, the size of the group can make this a dangerous ride (they are known to run red-lights)
No re-group points. If you get dropped, make sure you know the way home!
Distance: ~50km

Coffee is in South Perth.

I believe there are other groups that start at the same location at different times and days.  Ask around.

I haven’t ridden with the following groups, but I’ve heard of them and they are all rated highly:

South Perth Rouleurs

Riders Choice

Peloton Charity Shield

Irrespective of your ability, get out there and ride.  There are groups all around Perth.  Check with your LBS (Local Bike Shop) as a starting point.  Cycling is a fun way to keep fit, but doing it alone is boring.  Riding with a group is both safer and more fun and social.  Find a group that suits you and join in.
