BF2 Stats

Many years ago, in what seems like a different life, I was an avid gamer.  One of my favourite games at the time was Battlefield 2.  During this time as a gamer I stumbled across a system that allowed server administrators to create a Private Statistics database for players on their server(s).  At the time I found the system, many of the key developers had moved on and the system had a few bugs.  Most of the bugs were due to EA/DICE changing their code which broke the Private BF2 Statistics System.

Being a bit of a hacker/coder/general tinker I started including fixes posted by other users in the forums of the now defunct resurrected BF2statistics.com.  I also started added my own modifications and fixing bugs as I found them.  I’m a bit of perfectionist which things like this and before long I was spending more time tweaking, fixing, updating the BF2Stats system than actually playing the game.  At one point I realised I’d done so much work to help improve the system I felt it remiss on me not to give this work back to the community that had spawned it.

This I did and before long my nickname (The Shadow), got attached to system as the developer of the system.  I’m not the developer, I was just the guy who worked on it last.  I suppose it was an ego thing that I posted links to my web-site (this one) in the readme file.  Along with my email address.  So this is most likely why you’re here?

I haven’t played or worked with the BF2 Statistics system in nearly 5 years.  In fact I’ve hardly played any computer games in that time.  As you can see by my Blog, Cycling has generally taken over as my main passion.

Over the last few years I’ve been contacted by various members of the BF2 community asking for help with setting up or fixing the BF2 Statistics System.  I help where I can, but for the most part I can’t recall how things really work nor is it a passion/priority for me.  For the most part I just offer guidance as to where the issue may be and leave it up to them to try and fix.  Works for me, and hopeful for them as they can then fix other issues themselves later on.

So if you came here looking for BF2Statistics; sorry wrong place, but I do thank you for your visit today.

Head back over to BF2Statistics (yes it’s back online) and enjoy. Smile

Now that’s a blast from the past! I had no idea that BF2 was still actively played after all this time. I thought it would’ve dropped by the wayside for the newer versions of the series.

Yep, BF2 is still alive and well. I get contacted from time-to-time by various users and developers of the BF2 Statistics community. Even though I haven’t been involved for years, I still help out where I can. At least I have one time out on the ‘net that I can say I was a part of…

It’s quite humbling to be honest.
