ShadowLANs is about Local Area Networks. This used to apply to just computer networks, but now it also includes those local networks of people we make through life’s journey. This Blog is about that journey.

“ShadowLANs“? Where did that name come from?

Well many years ago a group of young guys would try and get together for the odd [W:LAN party]. The problem was trying to organise everyone and schedule in a date/time that worked. The suggestion was: “Hey why don’t we create a little web site & forum to help schedule these sessions?”. Shortly afterwards I built a small web-site based on [W:Joomla!]. All I had to do was name the site.  I must admit the name I chose was a bit an ego thing; my gaming nick, combined with LANs.

Thus ShadowLANs was born.

So who is this “Shadow“?

Shadow is me; Andy Prosser. Well more precisely Shadow is my alter-ego when I’m play computer games and generally lurking somewhere in the online world. I’ve actually had this nick since my early teenage years. I got mine at the same time as one of my best mates (Shade) got his. We were playing lots of a live-action laser shooting game, [W:Zone 3 (laser tag)]. We were actually quite good. As players Shade and I always seemed to be at the same place, at the same time. So much so that other regular players would know that if they spotted one of us, the other was lurking close by in the shadows.

Shade and Shadow; they look similar and hide in the darkness, disturb one and the other one will get you.

What’s this Blog about?

Well this site originally started life as a gaming portal to help co-ordinate a group of local computer game players meeting up for a [W:Fragfest]! Now, many years on we’ve all changed. For me the changes in recent years have been significant. I’m no longer obsessed by computer games. Now I’m obsessed with fittness and cycling specifically.  However, it’s the relationships I’ve formed in recent years that have led me back here. It’s made me realise that the most important networks aren’t IT related, bu those that you form with the people around you.

So ShadowLANs has gone from Geek to Life.
